Ever wonder what a senior portrait session in January looks like??
I have to admit, this was my first January senior session and I wasn’t sure what to expect as far as the weather is concerned. We do have milder winters here in North Carolina, but it is still cold! We took a chance and got lucky with a day that was warm enough for most of our shoot, and when Molly got a chill, she could put on her cute faux fur! We also utilized the warm and sunny inside stairwell of a parking deck which had beautiful light and gave us a break from the cold!
Here are 3 tips for planning your winter photo session~
- Dress appropriately! Molly had a cute dress, but made sure to bring her faux fur for warmth. I love how it also added some nice texture to her outfit.
- Look for places to give a break from the cold. Molly knew she wanted downtown Raleigh to be a part of her session (instead of being inside somewhere). We were able to use the warm and sunny stairwell of a parking deck to get warm and also create some interesting and beautiful pictures. The light in the stairwell was gorgeous!
- Keep moving! We did a lot of walking from location to location which kept us active and warm. I also had Molly twirl, jump, and shimmy- anything to keep her mind off the cold!
The bottom line is that all seasons have their beauty and can be fun for a photo session!
Molly is a senior at Apex High School and was a part of the Class of 2020 Senior Model Team before graduation. She always has a big smile and I appreciated that she was up for anything at our shoot! One of the biggest perks of being on the Senior Model Team is that we get to work together so many times before your actual senior portrait session that we feel comfortable with each other and that you trust me! You trust that if I ask you to jump for a photo it will be a beautiful photo (and it’s pretty fun too!).
Molly is headed to UNC Charlotte this fall and will major in elementary education. Good luck, Molly!
