It’s true, I definitely photograph more senior girls than senior guys. But the senior guys that I have had the chance to shoot, have been awesome! To me, it seems like they almost always do it for their moms. However, I’ve found that once we start working together they really get into and enjoy this experience! We focus just on them and what would make their session comfortable for them and unique to them.
I always send the senior a questionnaire before every session. This allows me to get to know them a little better, especially if the first time we will meet will be in front of the camera.
Since every interaction I’d had was with Jacob’s mom before his session, it was helpful to know that he loves basketball, so we made sure to incorporate that into his session. When asked, he mentioned that Vineyard Vines was one of his favorite places to shop, so I wasn’t surprised when he wanted to wear a Vineyard Vines hat with one of his outfits. And we used Downtown Apex for one our locations because he loves spending time there.
