One of the most fun parts of the planning process for your senior portrait session is deciding what you’ll wear! Don’t worry if you’re not sure – I will be here to guide you and help you select the perfect outfits to represent your personality and style! In this post, I’m going to give you my best tips on how to select different outfits and how to ensure you have great variety in your final gallery. Your locations and your outfits are the biggest planning details that will make your session a success, so we want to get them right!
Tip 1: Variety in COLOR
The first way to add variety to your different looks is with color. Color is very personal and should be tailored to your unique style but make sure you pick outfits that are in 2-3 different colors. For example, let’s say you’re wearing jeans and a white top, try to pick a different color for your dress option – maybe pink or orange. By picking outfits in a wide range of colors, you’ll have lots of different options to choose from in your final gallery of images.
Tip 2: Variety in TYPE
The second way to add variety is in the type of clothing pieces you choose. For example, you might love mini dresses, but you don’t want your entire session captured in a mini dress. You want to mix up your outfit types from short mini dresses, to long, flowing maxi dresses, to jeans and a nice blouse. Again, we want the type of clothing to match your style and personality, but make sure you bring a few different type options.
Tip 3: Variety in VIBE
The last way to add variety is through the vibe of each outfit. You’ll be using these images for a variety of purposes, from graduation invitations, to bio photos or rush photos if you join a sorority. Because of this, you need a varying range of vibes, or levels of dressiness, to be represented in your gallery. We will capture some fun, more casual images as well as more professional, classic ones. You’ll need outfits that are both casual, like jeans and a blouse, and dressy, like a dress or button-down shirt with slacks. Previous clients have even incorporated fun elements like their prom dress or sports uniform!
Bonus tip – Don’t forget accessories!
Statement earrings, big necklaces or even different pairs of shoes can really change an outfit into an entirely different look. Accessories, like a hat or jacket, are small and easily transported so they are a great way to add even more variety into your final images!
