Meredith was my last senior session before everything shut done due to Covid-19. We met at the lake, and walked and talked and hugged and laughed, I moved her into poses, and ran up from behind my camera to fix stray hairs. Little did I know that the next time I had a portrait session, things would look and feel so different.
Meredith also didn’t know at that time that she would end up finishing high school on line, questioning whether or not she would be able to walk across the stage to receive her diploma. At that time, she was still excited about prom and graduation.
When I went to drop off her graduation announcements (via contactless porch delivery), her mom was on the porch, so we got a chance to chat for a few minutes. Meredith came out to see us and to look at her graduation announcements and we discussed her acceptance to Auburn, and how excited she will be to start there in the fall.
We are in unknown waters right now, where everything looks so different that it used to and what we’ve come to expect. But what I keep reminding myself is that different doesn’t mean any less or worse. It may look different that we thought, but we can still appreciate all that we have. And for all of heir hardwork to get here AND all that they’ve had to unexpectedly endure, the grads of 2020 deserve every ounce of celebration!!
Congrats and good luck at Auburn, Meredith!
